2019-2020 NTSAF Governing Board

About The Governing Board

The Norman Topping Student Aid Fund (NTSAF) is the only student initiated, student funded, primarily student administered scholarship in the nation. The Topping Fund is administered by a Governing Board composed of ten general student representatives, one each from USG and GSG, two current Topping Scholars, two USC alumni, one faculty member and representatives from the offices of Admission and Financial Aid. The Governing Board selects the scholars every year and oversee the long-term policies and procedures of the NTSAF.

Governing Board selection takes place in the fall of each academic year. The number of appointments is dependent upon the number of open representative seats. Terms of appointments range based on representative status. Board members attend the annual Fall Governing Board Retreat, usually held in late September or early October, and monthly Governing Board meetings throughout the year. Board members should ideally also be available during the summer months for scholarship application reading, interviewing and scholar selection.

Students interested in serving on the Governing Board in should contact the NTSAF office. Benefits of being a student representative include:

  • Service to the university and local community
  • Interaction with incredible applicants and current Topping Scholars.
  • Recruitment and outreach experience
  • Networking with student leaders, faculty and staff

Message From the Chair

Dear Topping Scholars, Fellows, and Friends,

Welcome to the Topping Family! Since the 1970s, we have committed ourselves to empower students through mentorship and community. As we approach our 50th anniversary, this is a time of unprecedented opportunity to refine and extend our efforts in increasing access to education for students at USC. Being a first-generation student myself, I am proud to serve as the incoming Governing Board Chair and to play a part in such a transformative period in which we can connect and learn from each other.

The Topping Family prioritizes values that uplift one another to create unforgettable bonds that will last beyond our time here at USC. One of these values is something that I have always resonated with: the passion to help others realize their full potential. Many of us, including myself, would not be who we are today without the support of those around us. I hope you will find encouragement and inspiration in everyone you meet in here at Topping.

There is truly strength in numbers and I am very excited about the growth of our Topping Family. Our scholars and fellows come from diverse backgrounds across the country and are dedicated to making an impact, despite the challenges they have faced along the way. I hope you will consider joining our community as we continue to help students prosper. I can promise it will be an experience like no other.

I look forward to reading your application!
